Pregnancy weight is a big issue for women. Here in Nigeria/Africa, few women go back to their pre pregnancy weight; most of them stay overweight after pregnancy. Here is a quick guide on how you can keep fit during pregnancy and not gain excess weight while pregnant.
Exercising is very helpful in pregnancy as it is known to help with physical and mental stress of pregnancy; also helps keep you away from backache, fatigue and from constipation. Remember that being overweight can predispose you to illnesses such as Gestational diabetes or pre-eclampsia, so it is very important to maintain a good weight during and even after pregnancy. One very good advantage is that if you are exercising during pregnancy, you are most likely to be able to exercise after pregnancy…..which is a very good start to maintaining that sexy body!!
For me the top exercise a pregnant woman can/should do is the stationary exercise bike. The advantage of this bike is priceless. It is not demanding, and you can work out on it while watching tv or even gisting with your hubby and playing with your kids. Also since you are sitting while doing it, it removes the stress and weight bearing on the legs.
Other forms of exercise that could be done are walking and swimming. Ensure that you don’t put your body and baby under stress while doing this work outs. You can walk at a very moderate pace for an hour each day, remember walking doesn’t even have to be outdoors, you can march for an hour in the comfort of your living room.
Please do not exhaust yourself in the name of exercising, if you feel any symptoms such as dizziness or fainting you should stop immediately.
