Metabolism refers to all the chemical processes going on in your body to repair cells and aid digestion. These processes require energy; that is to say, if you have a high metabolism, you will be burning up a lot of calories and thus making it easier for you to lose weight.
People can have faster metabolism than others; this could depend on age, gender, body size, genetic composition. As we get older our metabolism slows. Men have a higher metabolic rate than women because they have a larger muscle mass and heavier bones. So another individuals BMR (basal metabolic rate) should not be a benchmark for yours because people have different body composition and characteristics.
Note that you can’t actually speed up your metabolism because you don’t have much control over it, but you can contribute to a faster metabolism by using these steps which can also improve your lifestyle and health –
People will naturally want to skip breakfast if they are on a quest to lose weight, oblivious to the fact that this will only put the body in starvation mode. Also, metabolism will not occur because when you are asleep your metabolism is slowed. You need that breakfast to jerk it up to begin burning calories. No wonder it is called the most important meal of the day. Be sure to have a high-fiber breakfast, it keeps you filled for a long period of time without craving for more food. Go for cereals, toast, eggs etc.
Drink lots of Water
Water is obviously a healthier choice to sugary drinks. When you cut down on sugary drinks, you reduce your level of calorie intake. Water can help speed up your metabolism temporarily by increasing resting metabolism and fill you up when you have some of it before meals
Consume more Protein
Proteins have complex building blocks called amino acids. More energy is required to break them down which means higher metabolism. Protein fills you up and prevents you from nibbling at one thing or the other. This doesn’t mean you should consume just proteins all day, but try to eat more fish, chicken, yoghurts and nuts.
Green tea helps speed up metabolism by converting some of the fat in the body into free fatty acids thus increase fat burning. They are also low in calories which could help with weight loss and maintenance.
Exercise as often as you can. Be active. It can help you burn more calories by increasing your metabolic rate. Strenuous workout sessions increase your heart rate more but just be sure to workout at your own capacity. Walking, cycling, jugging, lifting weights, following exercise routines can all help keep your body more active and allow you shed some weight. Higher muscle mass equals higher metabolism
Get a good night’s Sleep
Not having enough sleep could alter the way your body processes sugar, decrease the fullness hormone leptin and boost the hunger hormone ghrelin which will make you consume more food and increase you calorie level.
Coconut oil has a unique fatty acid profile which contains lots of medium-chain fats. These medium-chain fats increase your metabolism compared to long-chain fats found in foods such as butter. This increase in metabolism will aid decently in ensuring weight loss.
Incorporating these into your lifestyle and being consistent in it will take a positive toll on your metabolic rate, keeping you healthy, fit and more energized.
