What is Slimming World Diet



The slimming world diet focuses on cutting out high fat foods and replacing them with low fat foods. These low fat foods are referred to as ‘free foods’. Slimming world diet is all about ‘food optimizing’.

Free foods as mentioned before refer to low fat foods that are filling and low in calories. They are usually lowest in energy density but are very filling. Free foods include;

  • Rice

Food optimizing comes in three steps; free foods, healthy extras, and syns. Healthy extras are foods that though they may be good for our health but when taken freely may pile up weight. Healthy extras should be taken in controlled portions or measured amounts. Healthy extras include;

  • High fiber cereals
  • Bread

Syns stand for synergy and refer to the occasional treat we indulge in. the slimming world diet makes provision for a daily syns allowance to use on whatever you like. It could be a glass of wine, one scoop of ice cream, chocolate, biscuit, pizza, or cake. The fun part is that you don’t have to bother with calorie counting and occasional treats are allowed. Furthermore, weekly group meetings are organized for support and encouragement. Success stories are shared in these meetings as a means to boost morale.



People find it difficult to understand the slimming world diet. A plan where there are no restrictions, no calorie counting and a daily dose of syns does not sound realistic in the weight loss world.
